Tashkent to host International Uzbek Cotton Fair in mid-October
The 1st International Uzbek Cotton Fair was organized in 2005 on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov with a view to expand and diversify Uzbek cotton's export destinations, increase efficiency and optimize shipment of Uzbek cotton to the world markets.
In the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry in collaboration with the Association of designers of Uzbekistan «Osie Ramzi» Festival held «Han-atlas-2009». In the event on the 2200 anniversary of Tashkent, was attended by designers, artists, students. At the festival, it was noted that in our country is committed by a large-scale work on the revival and development of national traditions and values that bring them meaning and significance to the younger generation.
Uzbekistan cotton exports to decrease in 2008-2009
Uzbekistan will likely export less cotton this year despite stable production as domestic consumption continues growing, the Central Asian country's first minister of foreign economic relations investments and trade said Thursday.
Total shipments from the world's second-largest cotton exporter for the marketing year ending 31 July will likely fall to around 700,000 metric tonnes, while domestic consumption is estimated at 290,000 tonnes, Nasriddin Najimov said at a cotton industry conference in China.
